Five Journalists from The Sun Arrested

Five journalists from 'The Sun' newspaper are among eight who were arrested in the early hours throughout the weekend, over allegations of illegal bribes to police and public officials. The arrests of these individuals have sparked controversy over the way in which the arrests were carried out, where the paper's associate editor, Trevor Kavanagh, referred to it as a "witch-hunt" on 13th February 2012.

He explains that early morning raids of around 20 officers at a time and searching through children's underwear drawers  was "over the top" and created disruption for the families. The arrests were made in relation to the  Operation Elveden investigation which was launched after police were shown documents which implied that journalists had made illegal payments to officers.
All those who were arrested have been released on Police bail as the investigation continues.
